We place an enormous amount of psychological weight on our thoughts and our emotions. Meditation is the practice of observing your thoughts, being aware of your feelings, but attaching no judgment to them. If you feel angry, sit with the anger. Experience it for what it is and then let it go. As you meditate, allow thoughts to flow in and out of your mind without attachment, simply observing your inner world. Silence your inner critic and just be. An old Chinese Zen master said:
Some of you are taking me literally when I say, ‘Don’t think,’ and you are making your minds like a rock. This is a cause of insentiency and an obstruction to the Way. When I say not to think, I mean that if you have a thought, think nothing of it.”
