Some yoga poses require extreme relaxation to achieve. I myself do not recommend achieving that relaxation with alcohol, but it is interesting to note the amazing positions our bodies can get into when our physical and mental resistance is…impaired.

When I first started practicing yoga seriously, I wanted to have my butt kicked. I wanted to sweat buckets and wake up too sore to walk upstairs the next day. I was compelled to learn all the poses on the covers of Yoga Journal, and predictably, I skipped to the “back of the book” in [...]

First of all, it’s not really a floor. Floors are hard and sturdy, immovable. If it was a “floor” it would be too inflexible to allow a baby to pass through it. It has to be elastic and stretchy. Think of it as a pelvic “hammock.” It’s like a muscle sling that cradles your internal [...]

Yoga is an effective treatment for postpartum depression, with none of the side effects associated with anti-depressants, which is particularly important if you are breastfeeding. Find a gentle, slower paced class to ease your body back into shape, while calming your poor, sleep-deprived brain. This article does a great job explaining, medically, why yoga is [...]

Experience it for what it is and then let it go. As you meditate, [...]

Put on some relaxing music and try this gentle routine about 20 minutes before bedtime. Spend a good 10- 15 minutes in Savasana after the final pose, using an eye pillow to help relax your eyelids and forehead. You can rub a little bit of Lavender or Chamomile essential oils on your wrists and temples [...]

One of the main reasons I practice yoga is to manage my insomnia, which can be very severe at times. I have had episodes of total sleeplessness that have lasted 3-4 days. Seriously. When my anxiety goes through the roof like that, nothing helps, not a hot bath, or a boring book, not even sleeping [...]
